Collateral Damage Below
October/November 2024
H-Art Gallery, Peekskill
Installed in the H-Art Gallery in the Peekskill Artists District, 'Collateral Damage Below', an immersive multimedia project shined a spotlight on the global degradation of coral reefs and marine life. The exhibition featured underwater photography by Bob Gould, with Christine's experimental art along with projections of underwater videography by Bob and the late Lesley Avery Gould, as edited by Gene Panczenko. Three gallery music performances, 'Skin Against Metal', 'Aquatones featuring Steve White' and 'Aquatic Saxophonic' by Steve Frieder, improvised with the recorded sounds of coral reef life adding unique energy to the exhibit.

Elements Reimagined
September/December 2022
The Center for the Digital Arts/WCC
Peekskill, New York
Christine’s second solo show, 'Reimagined Elements', continued an exploration into reflective art and contextual ways of seeing. The ten 'Five Elements Reimagined' paper collages were reworked with mirror, auto glass and Himalayan salt fragments reinforcing their unique energetic characteristics. 'Art on Location' photographs captured a mirrored art canvas placed outside to interact with each season. Oddly shaped mirror fragments mounted above mixed media pieces play with light. 'Catching Closure', a suspended vintage fishing net holds memories and unanswered questions.

Elemental Reflections
February/April 2022
Ottinger Gallery, Croton Free Library Croton-on-Hudson, New York
Christine Knowlton’s reflective art brings the viewer contextually into each piece. Shifting with context and light, the art interacts with time and place adding a fourth dimension. The palette includes mirror shards, auto glass fragments, mica, iridescent textured paint, and intricately collaged images. Textured paint and reflective compositions create drama in the 'Rhythm of Disrepair' canvases. The 'Five Elements Transitioned' collages evoke characteristics and shifts between the cyclical Zen Elements of Nature. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are the essences that comprise our universe and all of life. The 'Art on Location' photography series brings the canvas outside to capture the intersection of reflective art and seasonal moments in nature.
